And now to Berlin (again). It was November 2014 and the dreaded time of New Year was fast approaching. To try and escape the inevitable awfulness which always is December 31st (why does someone ALWAYS end up crying? On me? LEAVE ME ALONE), The Tedious Englishman and I decided to descend upon Berlin. Why this of all place I hear you ask? Have a bullet pointed list:
- His older sister lives there and visiting family member is nice
- I'd had a fun mixture of "mmmm culture" and "errrrrrr weird emotional times" there with my uni friends in 2013. It didn't seem impossible that I could have an equally fun/dramatic experience in this city again.
- The Tedious Englishman used to live there and as such, has useful city knowledge and at least 2-5 friends living there. Oh, and some of his home friends and one of their girlfriends were already going too - henceforth to be known as The Surrey-Berlin Massive. DETAILS.
And so, very early one morning in late December, we departed our freezing cold flat in dear old Battersea and, after a brief argument about why ONE OF US was going to Germany IN WINTER without a coat, we boarded one of these fancy night buses you get in London, a whole 7 minutes away to Victoria Coach Station. Anyone bored yet?
Just hang in there, things are about to get exciting. At the coach station - WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO SHOW OUR TICKETS. THE MAN JUST LET US ON THE COACH. Now that's crazy. OK now I'll speed up my anecdoting - coach, bad sleep, Stansted airport, you REALLY didn't bring a coat?, hot chocolate, you sleep with your mouth open, bored, Ryanair really is the worst isn't it? Oh, we're here.
Instead, most of my funds for the week went on....CURRYWURST. It doesn't even taste like curry, it's amazing!
